Head of Department, Department of Crop Protection
The Crop Protection Department (CPD) is evidently the pioneer and largest Department of Crop Protection in Nigeria. It is well recognised nationally and internationally for comprehensive and integrative applied and basic researches on insect pests and diseases of numerous and important crops. We participate in projects contributing to national and global food security through reduction in crop losses.
CPD is known for distinction and possesses staff members who have won and are still winning internationally prestigious, competitive and highly selective/merit based awards for excellence. To date at the pre-doctoral level 10 staffers have won the British Commonwealth/other UK Government Awards, Six the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Scholarship, Three the United States of America (USA) Government funded Fellowship and Two the Belgian Government VLIR-OUS International Scholarship. At the postdoctoral/experienced researcher's level Four have won the U.S. Senior Fulbright Award, Two the German Alexander von Humboldt Award and One the Japan Society for Promotion of Science Award. The Department also boasts of 12 academic staffers with Fellow Awards for their outstanding contributions nationally and globally to the various disciplines of Crop Protection. These achievements have brought fame to the Department and can only be equaled by few other Departments in this Great University.
